Conlan Spearthrower is the brother of Thierry Descouedres, mate of Hellewise Hearth-Woman, and the father of Iluna Hearth-Woman. He is seen in a flashback by Thierry in Soulmate.
History[]
Early Life[]
Conlan was born during prehistoric times into Hecate Witch-Queen's Tribe, along with his brother Theorn. Much of Conlan's life is unknown, except that he was Hellewise's mate and the father of Iluna.
Falling in love with Hellewise[]
After his conversion into a vampire by Maya, Theorn is overcome by bloodlust and attacks Conlan. While it is unknown whether Theorn actually bites Conlan, he is stopped by the sight of Hellewise openly weeping at the actions of Maya. Although not mentioned in the novel, the family tree states that Conlan eventually became Hellewise's mate, and that he fathered a daughter, Iluna, with her before she was killed during the legendary duel between the twin sisters
Soulmate[]
During a flashback, Theorn (now known as Thierry Descouedres), recalls attacking Conlan.
Physical Appearance[]
A description of Conlan isn't given, but he can be presumed to be physically well-built, based on his last name of "Spearthrower". Given Thierry is described as having light blonde hair and "dark" eyes, it's possible Conlan, as his brother, shared these features.
If Conlan is a witch , he may also possess the "inhuman beauty" that Night People exhibit and considered very attractive by human standards .
Personality[]
The character of Conlan isn't fully explored, therefore nothing is known of his personality. However, given that Thierry encountered him near his grave after awakening as a vampire, this could imply that Conlan was mourning his brother and therefore that they had a close relationship.
Powers and Abilities[]
Judging by his last name, Conlan appears to have a talent for throwing spears, which he appears to share with his brother Thierry, who once stated to have a "good throwing arm".
If he were a witch, then he would've been able to perform magic.
Etymology[]
- The name "Conlan" is of Irish and Gaelic origin, meaning "hero".
- "Spearthrower" alludes to Conlan's talent at throwing spears.
Trivia[]
- Although Conlan is first mentioned as Thierry's brother in Soulmate, Night World: The Ultimate Fan Guide confirms that he is the mate of Hellewise, also backed up by the Harman and Redfern family tree.
- It is not specified if Conlan was a witch or a human, given that witches often took human husbands back in the Stone Age, and the implication that some members of the prehistoric witch tribe were human.
