Britomartis Hearth-Woman, also known as The Hearth-Woman of Crete was a witch and an ancestor of the Harman family. Born in ancient times, Britomartis presumably lived on Crete, an island off the coast of Greece.

Etymology[]

Britomartis is the name of the Minoan goddess of mountains and hunting. She was an important goddess in Crete, but was later reduced to a lesser role as a wood nymph in Classical Greek mythology. However, it is widely believed many of the myths and legends of Britomartis were merged with Artemis, the Greek goddess of hunting and the moon, who bares many similarities to Britomartis. Britomartis the nymph was a favourite of Artemis and also loved by Minos, the mythological king of the Minoans.

Trivia[]
